Building A bed 101

Now that winter is in full swing, it's a great time to refresh your bedding.

Below we have listed a step-by-step guide to building the coziest bed you could ever dream of!

#1 Mattress Protectors

Designed to enhance the comfort of your mattress. They will keep your bedding clean and fresh while keeping you cool, dry and comfortable.

The St. Geneve St. Dormeir is a natural wool mattress protector that is quilted in Spain with pure virgin wool and a special chemical-free terry cover with 100% cotton pile and a polyester base for durability. Wool has a reputation for insulation and absorbency making it perfect for use year-long.

#2 Sheeting

Picking the right sheets for your sleep style is key to a good night’s rest!

A cotton percale will be cool and crisp making it ideal for hot sleepers. This weave is more open and allows the fabric to sit up at attention keeping off the body allowing air to flow.

A cotton sateen weave will be smooth and soft and ideal for cold sleepers as the weave is close knit and offers a supple drape on the body. Sateen sheets will also become softer with every wash

#3 Pillows

Having the right pillow will make all the difference during your sleep!

Pillows give our necks and spine proper support while we sleep and with the correct one, they will reduce the possibility of waking up with neck or back pain.

Down Pillows are known for their softness and fluffiness. They are also highly breathable, which means they can help regulate your body temperature while you sleep. There are different types of down such as Goose or Duck and they have different sizes of down cluster (Loft)

Wool Pillows are a great option if you enjoy a supportive, low-profile pillow. Wool has a unique combination of temperature and moisture regulation which allows for a comfortable sleep.

Down Alternative Pillows are a great alternative for people with true down allergies.

#4 Duvets

One of the main benefits of down duvets is their ability to provide exceptional warmth without feeling heavy or bulky. Down is also known for its ability to regulate temperature, meaning that it will keep you warm in our harsh winter months but won't cause you to overheat in the summer.

For those with true down allergies, there are also duvets with silk fill, wool fill & down alternative.

Most down duvets are available in different weights for different season or sleep styles. Ultralight is designed for those who sleep hot but still want a light covering and a touch of warmth. Summer is for those that sleep warm, in heated bedrooms and warm climates. Classic is the most popular, it suits average people in average temperatures. Winter is for people that like to sleep in cooler bedrooms, this weight is guaranteed to be warm enough.

#5 Duvet Covers

The main purpose of a duvet cover is to protect your duvet from wear, stains & dust. This makes it easier to maintain a clean bed by only having to wash the duvet cover rather than the full duvet.

Aesthetic is the secondary purpose of the duvet cover. This is where you can add colour & pattern into your bedroom. With prints, jacquards & woven textures you can find almost anything you can dream of!

We have a wide selection of samples in store so you can see & feel before purchasing.

#6 Coverlets/Quilts

There is a slight difference between quilts & coverlets.

Coverlets are mainly one layer of a woven fabric, which makes them light to sleep under in the summer months.

Quilts are made with a middle layer, usually with pinned or quilted design. This give quilts a fuller appearance, however they are still light to sleep under.

Both are used for decorative purposed when making a bed. A quilt or coverlet can add layers & texture to give your bed a cozy, finished feel.

#7 Decorative Cushions

Decorative cushions are the finishing touch to your bed! These will add colour, pattern & dimension to your bed. These can be 26x26" Euro pillows or smaller 20x20" pillows.
